Roopesh Kumar
What do you do at Madhi?
I work at the intersection of all the supporting verticals with the Organisational Development vertical on the operational front and also as a thought partner for the CEO on striving to make Madhi a purposeful and enabling space for all.
Why do you do what you do?
I love nurturing spaces for people on a mission to bring out the best version of themselves and that is very fulfilling for me.
What is the lamest joke you have heard a team member crack?
This is not quite a joke, but our daily conversations with the tea vendor always reveal some interesting new information. For instance, did you know that cloud seeding was done in Chennai in 1980 to create artificial rain?
What is your favourite memory with the team?
We volunteered with the Government of Tamil Nadu to assist the Unified Command Center (UCC) during the Covid second wave. In a very short span of time, the team rallied quickly to support UCC. When volunteers described their experiences on how they were able to help people is my favorite memory with the team.

Aparna Shankar
What do you do at Madhi?
Associate Director, Projects. I work on equipping everybody to make magic happen seamlessly.
Why do you do what you do?
I believe that foundational learning is a key building block for removing social inequity and one of the most effective means to eliminate poverty.
What is the lamest joke you have heard a team member crack?
Someone said, “Let’s go watch Darbar” (The Rajnikanth movie). I thought they were referring to a classical music concert.
What is your favourite memory with the team?
I really enjoyed watching everybody make a fool of themselves during a mini-theatre exercise at one of our monthly meetings. All the plays were so hilarious and yet quite meaningful.

Mathangi PN
What do you do at Madhi?
Senior Manager, Curriculum Design & Learning. I create teacher development curriculum and content.
Why do you do what you do?
After working in the corporate sector, and then as a teacher and an assistant school leader, I really wanted to join an organisation that worked with curriculum improvement in schools, and had a warm and engaging team culture.
What is the lamest joke you have heard a team member crack?
Anticipating the usual queries, a colleague once answered a call from her Ola cab driver with, “Hello! Naa cash pesare!” (Translation: “Hello! I am cash speaking.”)
What is your favourite memory with the team?
I really enjoy the unique flavour Madhi brings to any occasion. Be it birthdays, weddings, or traditional festivals.

The Specialist, Content Development and Capacity Building will support the Senior Manager and guide associates in the curriculum and instructional design processes for all projects. This involves co-creating guidelines for all content pieces, including but not limited to worksheets, lesson plans, instructional videos and assessments. Madhi works closely with the Tamil Nadu School Education Department to conceptualise and implement large scale quality improvement programmes in Tamil Nadu’s government schools. Over the course of the next 5 years Madhi will strengthen its existing programmes in the state (as well as undertake new programmes) with the singular aim of ensuring transformative improvement in the quality of school education in Tamil Nadu. Madhi’s programmes in Tamil Nadu are consolidated under a single umbrella called Project: TN Soars, comprising 3 critical projects: 1. Ennum Ezhuthum (The Tamil Nadu state Foundational Learning Mission), 2. TechForEdSystems and 3. Tamil Nadu STEAM Model Schools.
Ennum Ezhuthum: We are currently also working as the ‘Chief Management Partner’ for Tamil Nadu’s official Foundational Learning Mission, The ‘Ennum Ezhuthum Mission’ - a Rs. 500 Cr Mission of national and regional importance aimed at universalising foundational learning for all children in Tamil Nadu’s 37,000 government schools.
Project MALA: Project MALA aims to create high-tech, low-tech and no-tech tools which can support child-educators (parents, teachers, volunteers) to build the neuro-linguistic exposure that children require to acquire language proficiency through oracy. Children in rural areas or from low income households have minimal exposure to the English language- particularly oracy. They find the existing english language learning tools inadequate to build fluency in spoken English and also have difficulty in reading to learn from English sources. Project MALA aims to leverage technology and contextually built learning resources to solve this problem.
Tamil Nadu STEAM Model Schools: To ensure holistic growth of children from underserved communities and to empower them with the skills to work toward their dreams, the Department of School Education has embarked on an ambitious project of setting up ‘Tamil Nadu Model Schools’ that will serve children from the most marginalized backgrounds and equip them with skills and knowledge such that their disadvantages get mitigated and no longer impede their success in academics, work and life. Madhi has joined the Department to assist in the setting up of these 38 Model Schools, each exemplifying the principles of equity and inclusion in letter and spirit, enabling every student, irrespective of their background, to receive equal opportunities to aspire and achieve their goals.
