SYSTEM REFORM: OUR APPROACH

SUPPLY SIDE: Working with Government Systems

Foundational Learning Improvement Programme (FLIP)
Madhi’s Foundational Learning Improvement Programme (FLIP) is anchored in a 6T framework shaped by our experience working with large state systems. We believe foundational learning reform succeeds only when all six elements are addressed together, not in isolation. The framework is localised to each district or state with a strong focus on impact. Key outcomes include an 89-percentage-point increase in teacher mentor support visits, a five-rank improvement for Tamil Nadu in national literacy and numeracy, and performance gains in Meghalaya that exceeded control cohorts across all critical literacy and numeracy competencies.
DEMAND SIDE: Working with Parent Communities

Communities Enabling Foundational Learning (CEFL)
Parental involvement plays a key role in a child’s learning but is often overlooked, especially in low-income communities. CEFL (localised as Veedum Vizhippum in Tamil Nadu) supports parents and caregivers to help children learn at home, engage with schools, and advocate for quality foundational education. The programme has led to a 19% increase in parental awareness of foundational learning and 23% higher learning gains compared to much lower improvements in control groups.
ED TECH FOR FOUNDATIONAL LEARNING

ENJOY ENGLISH
India’s first AI-powered bilingual app for foundational communicative English, designed for first-generation English learners, blends technology with the natural language acquisition process. Aligned with national and state guidelines, it offers joyful, contextual videos, peer learning spaces, and interactive games. Teachers benefit from easy-to-use tools to schedule, track, and teach effortlessly. With a mission to impact 3 million children by 2035, it redefines how children from low-income, low-exposure to English backgrounds begin their English leanring journey, replacing fear with joy.

Pilots and Projects
At Madhi, we actively contribute to the broader education ecosystem by designing and implementing pilots, as well as partnering with other organisations on focused, high-impact projects. These efforts enable us to experiment, generate evidence, and strengthen approaches that improve education quality. The following pilots and projects reflect our ongoing commitment to making equitable, quality education accessible to every child.

The School Transformation Project
